oooh, no, i'm pretty sure that they are all still in print. i bought la nouvelle pauvrete on CD at other music and bought the other two records from mp3 stores. i'm positive that tierbeobachtungen isn't hard or expensive to track down on CD, although the farben release seems a bit tougher. i also noticed that ~scape re-issued one of his early releases, loop finding jazz records, in 2008, so i'll have to pick that one up too.
that gramm record, on the other hand, is running near $100 for a used CD. what the hell. |

as many mixes as i've listened to this year, i'm actually kinda struggling to remember which ones were really stupendous. so far, these are the ones that stick out in my head. add to it!
timeblind's mahout mix (things dubstep) lamin fofana's recession rap mix on wfmu's mudd up! (3/19/09) (hip hop) henrik schwarz, ame, and dixon, the grandfather paradox (things minimal) house of house mix for little white earbuds (deep house) optimo synth summer mix (things synth) |

two great bass music mixes via the dutty artz family: cauto's november 2009 mix for mr. gasparov & matt shadetek's secret knowledge mix. i'm listening to the cauto mix now - starts off with some achingly sweet and fast-footed dubstep tunes and currently is in a slightly darker, more abstract space. shadetek's mix is just NASTY, way more of a uk funky vibe. really digging both.
king midas sound's fact mix is also solid. never turn down a mix that features sade. |

i've fallen behind on the RA podcasts as of late, but did download the psychonauts one earlier this morning when i saw you posted about it. i'll probably listen to it tomorrow.
i was enjoying redshape's "twilight zone in rabbit holes" mix for mnml ssgs yesterday. it's much more of a "populist" mix, if that makes any sense. what i mean is that it has two radiohead tracks. but those 154 tracks on there hit like monster trucks made of the softest pillows. have you heard dj sprinkles "masturjakor," 9000? recorded during the midtown 120 blues sessions but left off the album because it didn't quite fit. very jackin', and as good as anything on the full length. |

that psychonauts mix is pretty good, though i gotta say it kinda felt like mixes i was buying and downloading ~2005-2007. i mean that in a good way. there's just something about its pacing that took me back there. this may be due to the fact that the only other context i have for the psychonauts is through superpitcher's today mix.
no lie, when i first read your post above, 9000, i read it as "dj hell/bobby mcferrin song" and one eyebrow shot up. what's the story w/ this track? yesterday in the mail i received dual nature by lerosa, which is on ... tape. i thought this was some kid, but i was surprised to find out that he's released a pretty decent number of eps and 12"s since 2005. i was a little skeptical of the fact that it's on tape, as well, but actually the slightly dampened sound works really well with his style of dub techno. i'm going to make a delicious meal while i listen to this. oh, and i wanted to add, the first 30 minutes of the psychonauts mix is particularly good. i was happy when he dropped down four tet's "love cry," because i've been listening to there is love in you non-stop since i picked it up on tuesday, and "love cry" is a highlight on an already pretty stupendous album.

that's funny, because i also thought it sounded a bit dated, however, unlike for you, it didn't really kick-in until after the 30 minute mark for me.
there is love in you is doing nothing for me. all in the head, nothing below. hear this one yet?

goddamn, i'm a big fan of "rushing to paradise (walking these streets)" on its own, but that dj harvey mix is something else! thanks for that. i definitely need to pick up the 12" now that (or as soon as) they've repressed it.
there is love in you works really well for me, i think, because i've been listening to cluster and other twinkly psychedelic shit lately. in my mind, it splits the difference between, i don't know, teutonic pastoralism and dusty house music. and "love cry," god, it's just a beautiful pile-up that feels really controlled without coming off as studied or sterile. but yeah, i guess other than "love cry," it really isn't for the lower body. i listen to it on the train, walking the street, and when i'm editing. i doubt anyone gives much of a damn, but i pre-ordered that opera by the knife & co., tomorrow, in a year, and it's pretty much all i've listened to since last thursday. the title track hits me in a really visceral way that i don't know how to explain to myself, probably because i don't know enough music theory. it's pretty special though - the kind of thing i want to play for people who've never heard it before and say, "listen! listen!!" right before something really cool happens. |

I'm really digging Mike Slott's Lucky 9Teen 12" on Lucky Me. Might be a bit more to vesper's taste than 9000's, but sometimes the old codger still surprises me...
